Our Family has
been in the Esrogim business for several generations beginning with
our grandfather, Rabbi Yehoshua Ludmir, a native of Safad , a great
Talmid Chacham, sage and scholar in Yerushalayim, who began working
with Esrogim over 65 years ago as a young man. His Domain was Jerusalem
where he became famous as an expert and 'maven' on Esrogim. His
brothers owned Esrog orchards and exported their Esrogim all over
the world.
My father Rabbi Shimon Ludmir, began to export Esrogim with his
brother Rabbi Mordechai Ludmir OBM over 30 years ago his expertise
is with pure Esrogim that have not been grafted with any other fruit(lemon).
He has been known to export ungrafted Esrogim from Israel, and has
planted Esrogim with his own hands
My father has
worked in the Esrog orchard, growing them, cultivating them, cutting
them, sorting and marketing them. He has also cultivated and replanted
Yemenite Esrogim which is a unique type of Esrog, some people use
only these.
My family continues
to follow in our father's and grandfather's footsteps. We honor
this beautiful fruit that enhances our Sukkot Yom Tov. Many of our
holy ancestors have sacrificed their very food just to obtain an
Esrog.
There are many
Jewish laws concerning the Esrog, its perfection's and flaws, and
these laws decide whether they are permitted or prohibited for use.
Those of us who have been brought up with Esrogim have these laws
inculcated in us since childhood, and we can recognize an Esrog's
origin and roots just by looking at it. Our family has been renowned
for many generations, and it is known that we are accountable and
trustworthy. When you make a blessing on one of our Esrogim you
know that you have not made a blessing in vain.
